Museum Work
These works described below were made for various museums on the east coast such as the American Philosophical Society, Boston Athenaeum, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
This first work below was made for the American Philosophical Society in Philadelphia in 2019. This piece is called a Gunter Chain and is a traditional land measuring tool from the 17th century. The Gunter Chain was invented by Edmund Gunter in 1620. This tool is 66ft long with 100 steel links measuring 7.92 inches each. Here it has brass handles, four swivels, and ten brass medallions, one every ten links, denoting the measurement in chain. This chain was used for educational programming by the Society.
This work below was made in collaboration with Ellen Kaspern for the Boston Anthenaeum in 2019. Ellen is an amazing woodworker and asked me to help make hardware for this traditional Book Press that would be used to carry and travel with books for educational purposes. The forged steel handles on either side of this cabinet are hardware to carry this case with hinged, rotating handles, and diamond shapes backplates.
